Faded cabaret darling Gigi Fontaine has washed up in San Francisco right on closing time, ready to shower her fans with sequins and off-brand gin.
“Whatever Happened to Gigi Fontaine?” follows the rise and fall of a former Vegas star, from the casino shows that made her, to the man that nearly ruined her. With a string of tours under her belt and all those suspicious nightclub fires behind her, she’s clinging to stardom in her hastily-manicured claws and she’s ready for her swansong.
Part standup, part cabaret, part “Great American Songbook sung through a throatful of gin,” this one-woman show is for a city with an old soul and a world tired of bright young things. (*Note: Under a legal settlement with the estate of Simon Le Bon, the show will no longer touch on allegations Ms. Fontaine handcuffed all four members of Duran Duran in her walk-in humidor in 1987).
Written by and starring Claire Reilly.
