At the age of 19, Kate Bush topped the UK Singles Chart for four weeks with her debut single “Wuthering Heights”, becoming the first female artist to achieve a UK number one with a self-written song. Writing from literary influences and her own piano, and working with other incredible musicians to create iconic albums, Bush has released 25 UK Top 40 singles. Nine of her studio albums reached the UK Top 10, with all but one reaching the top five. Kate Bush is truly an artistic force, a dancer, a mime, a singer, a pianist, directress and composer. She was the first British solo female artist to top the UK album charts and the first female artist to enter the album chart at number one. All this despite being one of the strangest creators pop music has ever experienced – her mix of poetry, unexpected chord changes and timing, her soprano vocals and lyrical themes all set her apart and challenge the listener to catch up with her visions. She is not the expected palatable fare of music for mainstream ears and yet she has carved out a place for herself in the history of popular music that cannot be denied – and her beloved fans deserve to hear that music on big speakers as often as possible!
The legendary “Tshack” and “Mother” drag clubs in SF would throw a massive Kate Bush tributes, which trixxie performed in many many times (being a huge fan), and in tribute to this herstory of drag queens paying homage to her music we will celebrate her masterpieces of sound and keep the legacy alive!
